Pentagon Survivor Martha Gilchrist to Speak

"The plane literally came through my window," says Pentagon survivor Martha Gilchrist, who will tell her September 11th story on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at 6:00pm at the next Cocke County Republican Women Club meeting in the the Newport Utilities Community Room. The public is invited to attend.

Gilchrist is a Tennessee native and a thirty-five year veteran of the Department of the Army.

Help Wanted for September 11th Flag Display

 

Friday, August 19, 2011 - Sunday, August 21, 2011, 8:00am-5:00pm

Salem, OR

Volunteers will be needed on the weekend of August 19-21, 2011 to assemble flags that will be displayed in the September 11th commemoration, the Field of Flags.

Flags will be assembled each day from 8:00am to 5:00pm at the Anderson Readiness Center in Salem. Volunteers may work for any amount of time, but all volunteers must register at www.doodle.com/3mxrseh3p48992ms.

The Field of Flags will be on display in Salem’s Riverfront Park from Tuesday, September 7, 2011—Sunday, September 11, 2011 in tribute to the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Ken Waldie Memorial Golf Outing

Saturday, August 20, 2011, registration 8:15am; tee time 9:00am

The Ken Waldie Memorial Golf Outing will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Scenic Valley Golf Course in Finleyville, PA.

Registration starts at 8:15am and tee time is at 9:00am.

The cost to golf $110.00 per person, which includes: golf, cart, prizes, dinner and bar.

This tournament is limited to the first 64 players.

Bill Sugra Memorial Golf Outing

This year’s Bill Sugra Memorial Golf Outing will take place at the Green Pond Country Club in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on Friday, August 27, 2011.

 

Registration begins at 10:00am, lunch will be at 11:00am, and the shotgun start is promptly at 12:00pm noon.

Bill Sugra was a network administrator in Cantor Fitzgerald’s eSpeed division. He was on the 103rd floor of the World Trade Center’s Tower 1 on September 11, 2001. Bill had just celebrated his 30th birthday.

10th Annual Joseph Hasson III Memorial Golf Outing

The tenth annual Joseph Hasson III Memorial Golf Outing will take place on Monday, August 29, 2011 at Dyker Beach Golf Course. Registration begins at 12:00pm noon and there will be a 1:15pm shotgun start.

The minimum donation is $200.00 per player. The fee includes the day’s golf, lunch and cocktails before golf, beverages during golf and the post-golf cocktails and barbeque.

New York Remembers Statewide Exhibits

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, the New York State Museum, and the National September 11 Memorial & Museum have announced the locations for thirty New York Remembers exhibitions of World Trade Center artifacts around the state.

 

Each of the New York locations listed below will open a New York Remembers exhibit during the week of August 29, 2011 and the exhibits will continue until the end of September. All exhibits will be open on Sunday, September 11, 2011.

Performing Tribute

The Endurance Theatre will present Performing Tribute 9/11: Ordinary People, Remarkable Stories at various locations in New York and New Jersey to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

On Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at 7:00pm, the performance will take place at
Mount Olive Public Library in Flanders, NJ.

Performing Tribute presents stories of individuals who were directly impacted by the World Trade Center attack – survivors from the Towers; family members of victims; an evacuated area resident; a retired FDNY firefighter who responded to the site, and volunteers who helped in the rescue and recovery. The individual experiences are told first-hand by the people involved in readers’ theatre style, as images from the day are shown.

Tickets are free and will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. Doors open twenty minutes prior to the start of the presentation.
