the New York Yankees during the World Series.
ABOARD THE USS NEW YORK - They're from New York, sailing on the
New York and watching the Yankees play in the World Series.

"It doesn't get better than that," said Navy Hospital Corpsman 2nd
Class Nathaniel Mitchell of Queens.

Mitchell, 40, and several of his fellow sailors are making their way
to the city from Norfolk Naval Station, Va., to commission the Navy's
newest ship - an amphibious transport dock made with 7.5 tons of
steel from the World Trade Center.

But they're taking a break to watch the Yanks try to win their 27th
World Series title.

"It's nice that the ship has the game on for us," said Master at Arms
2nd Class Angel Candelaria, 42, of the Bronx. "Being on the ship is hard,
but having the game on takes away from the pressure."

The die-hard Yankees fans are part of a 360-member crew on the ship,
along with about 250 Marines.
They gathered in the mess decks and in their berths Wednesday
night to tune in to their heroes - and to offer a little advice to the
men in pinstripes.

"Just keep up the good work," said Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class
Steven Cochrane, 43, of upstate Harrison. "The bats gotta come alive."

They all predicted the Yankees would take the Series.

"I wanted to see it in four, but we can live with six," Cochrane said.

"Baseball for me is like being at home," said Logistics Specialist 1st
Class (expeditionary warfare specialist) Frank Lewis, 38, of the Bronx.
