Everyday, the Tribute Center helps hundreds of visitors learn about the events of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993. During a walking tour around the perimeter of the World Trade Center site, you’ll connect with people from around the world by sharing your story. Join other survivors, recovery workers, volunteers, downtown residents and workers, and family members that lost loved ones who graciously offer their experiences as a learnig tool to others. By becoming a volunteer, you’re becoming a part of history.
Volunteer Programs Goal: To connect those who experienced September 11th first hand with those who come to seek understanding and pay tribute and to make the interaction a healing process for both parties. By continuing to tell the story, we further ensure that we, as a nation, never forget those who perished or the remarkable response of those who helped in the aftermath.
Walking Tour Guides: The Tribute Center’s volunteer walking tour program is an opportunity for people directly affected by 9/11 to share their stories with World Trade Center site visitors. Volunteer Walking Tour Guides are from the 9/11 community - family members who lost loved ones, survivors, Lower Manhattan workers and residents, rescue workers volunteers, firefighters and police officers. Three to five tours are offered daily. Each tour is led by a team of a support and lead guide volunteer.
Share historic overview of the 1993 and September 11, 2001 attacks, as well as the continuing history of the WTC and lower Manhattan.
Gallery Guides: Gallery Guides implement the educational mission of the Tribute Center, engaging visitors in Person to Person conversation to deepen their awareness and understanding of history. Guides share experiences and information about the 1993 and 2001 attacks, engaging visitors in dialogue to express their own thoughts. Guides are an alert and approachable presence that assists in interpreting gallery content.
